Our Vision
Opened more than 30 years ago, the Alpine Bakery is one of the oldest food establishments in the Yukon. We are much more than a bakery offering artisanal bread and pastries. We also offer delicious fresh meal options, beverages, and homemade goods.
The bakery is run as a social enterprise. Our vision includes promoting and encouraging social and environmental well being, as well as social change.
For us, this change starts with organic food, and the promotion of local organic farms.
Furthermore, we know that having a small footprint in the North is difficult, but we try in many ways: working toward zero waste, using quality local ingredients as much as available, printing promotional materials on 100% recycled paper, using only environmentally friendly cleaning products, and much more!
Alpine Bakery is bullfrogpowered with green energy. This means that Bullfrog's suppliers inject same amount of green kWh into the grid as Alpine Bakery still consumes kWh that are produced by fossil fuel (propane, fuel, diesel and LNG).
Our income is reinvested in our vision. We are a proud member of 1% For The Planet (1% FTP) and donate every year at least 1% of sales to support local environmental causes.
Why Organic...
A local organic food system is the best for the planet and the people. This is why we support local organic farmers and that we are also a member of Growers Of Organic Food Yukon (GOOFY).
We want our customers to question the food industry, to know more about the value of organic produce and to reconnect with what they are eating.
We are proud to be the first certified organic Bakery & Cafe North of 60.

Hello! We are Walter and Silvia from Germany. We used to live a very different life until the call for a simpler way of living - closer to nature and to the wilderness brought us to the Yukon.
Becoming the owners of the Alpine Bakery allowed us to follow our beliefs. We dream of a greener society where the environment, human well-being, and social equity are at the top of all decisions.
We believe that every small action for a healthier planet can have a positive impact, and that everybody can reach a healthier lifestyle and reduced its ecological footprint.
We like hiking mountains to find the best view for a coffee break and a delicious snack, or to seek silence in our tiny cabin off-grid. And of course we are passionate about organic food and artisanal bread.
Nature, the world offers us daily so many little often transient miracles, we just have to slow down, sit down and look around, really look.
